Students from Butler-area high schools got a taste for flying on Friday, April 14.
In collaboration with CCBC and BC3, the team at High Flight Academy hosted sophomores and juniors for a morning of aviation education. Students had the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with airplanes, test the Redbird Simulator, and learn more about lucrative careers in aviation.

Along with the colleges, our goal is to help more students understand why aviation is such a valuable career choice.
Here are some of the important takeaways from the event:
- Because so many pilots are reaching retirement age, there is a huge demand for new pilots (which means first-year total compensation is up to $86,000)
- High school students can start earning hours toward their license before graduating high school
- Aviation education is a great way to apply STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) skills
- Airline-sponsored tuition reimbursement of up to $5,000 is available
As we grow our partnership with CCBC and BC3, we look forward to helping more high school students take advantage of the opportunities in aviation.
